A sensory experience of South Tyrol's vineyards. Hear, smell, see, feel, taste - an oenological encounter of a special kind.
South Tyrol's vineyards afford mesmerising scenic backdrops in every season. A variety of vineyards with species-rich habitats cover a sophisticated vegetative cycle throughout the year. Intently appreciate nature’s course, engage with the vineyard itself, take in the surroundings, draw strength from it, and experience the area as your very own special "place for the soul". This unique experience is made possible by an initiative called “mindfulness in the vineyard", which was launched by Vinum Hotels South Tyrol in collaboration with nature and forest therapy guide Martin Kiem and the Alois Lageder Winery.
Experience and understand the "essence of the vineyard" - nature and forest therapy guide Martin Kiem leads the way to relaxing mindfulness exercises to better perceive the surrounding landscape, to understand the individual vine plants, to an awareness of sensory perception and to the deceleration of thoughts. An unforgettable encounter with nature in the summer months of June and July with Vinum Hotels South Tyrol.
Mindfulness is conscious awareness and living the in present of the moment. Being in the here and now, without any judgement and with all your senses - only then can you hear happiness, taste joy, feel love, view freedom and smell the warmth.
Several South Tyrolean winegrowing pioneers have already been breaking new ground in viticulture for a number of years. Thereby prioritising respect for nature. Allowing biodiversity and the natural course of things their space in the vineyard is the age-old, flourishingly new credo. Sustainable and natural viticulture with controlled use of plant protection products is the key to new, dynamic and harmonious wines.
Carefully cultivating vineyards with biodynamic compounds and homeopathic teas to help further strengthen the vine's resistance, spreading composts and pomace to revitalise the soil and encouraging species-rich flora for a balanced supply of nutrients are the hallmarks of this new caring approach to viticulture.
Major wine producers such as Alois Lageder in Margreid and Manincor in Kaltern, but also less well-known names such as the Oberstein Wine Estate in Tscherms, Wine Manufacture Luis Oberrauch in Auer, Thomas Niedermayr Gandberg Wine Estate in Eppan or Winzer Röck in Villanders work and live according to the rhythm of the vineyard. From pruning the vines in winter to the frost-protection efforts made in spring and then the pruning work in summer to the harvest in autumn. For all of them, wine is more than just the result of hard work, it is a complete work of art for them. And what has worked in the vineyard is demonstrated in the bottle.
Once in South Tyrol, it is an absolute must to taste these exciting wines from these small wineries. Showcase wines such as the Sauvignon "Salis" from Oberstein, Solaris "14" from Thomas Niedermayr, Lagrein from Luis Oberrauch or the Riesling "Paula" from Röck win you over with their special character and unique taste.
