Velvety Vernatsch at Lake Kaltern, fiery Burgundy varieties
Eppan is the largest and Kaltern the second largest wine-growing community in South Tyrol; the vineyard potential is accordingly diverse. At Lake Kaltern, one of the warmest bathing lakes in the Alps, Ver natsch develops soft, velvety tannins and intense, true-to-variety cherry fruit. Here the Bordeaux varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon find an ideal and warm habitat. In the breezy and cool altitudes of Eppan and St. Pauls, the noble French varieties have been growing here for over 100 years: Pinot noir, Pinot blanc, Sauvignon and Pinot gris. Chardonnay develops its complex minerality on the moraine soils of Girlan.
