Mint and lemon balm cordial

Here's a simple recipe for homemade mint and lemon balm cordial:

Ingredients

  • 2 L water
  • 2 kg sugar
  • 30 g citric acid
  • 3 handfuls of lemon balm leaves
  • 1 handful of mint leaves
  • peel and juice of 1 natural lemon

With its invigorating fragrance and intense flavour, mint refreshes the senses and enlivens the mind. Whether as an aromatic addition to refreshing drinks or as a seasoning in savoury dishes - its versatility makes it an indispensable ingredient in the kitchen and also in naturopathy. Gentle and calming, lemon balm is good for the soul and bestows moments of relaxation and well-being. Its lemony fragrance and mild flavour make it a popular constituent in teas and wellness drinks. However, lemon balm is not only known as a drink, but also as a medicinal herb - it is said to have a calming effect on digestive ailments and promotes restful sleep. And this is how it's made: bring the water to the boil and add the sugar, citric acid and herbs. Cover and leave to infuse for 24 hours. Bottle the next day and seal well. Happy brewing!
