1,400 metres above ordinary life, this is a place of unique vitality. In the mountains of the Puster Valley, Barbara and Horst Peintner have opened their home to guests. They welcome visitors with warmth and hospitality, showing them how beneficial it can be to spend time in a calming place in the midst of nature, where you can recharge your batteries.

The Biohotel Gitschberg in Meransen stands for sustainability in practice, a deep connection to nature and an incomparable panoramic location high above the Val Pusteria. As an organic hotel, it attaches great importance to regional value creation, ecological materials and the responsible use of resources.

The small village inn first opened its doors in the early 1970s. Back then, the owner would personally pick up guests from the train station in his tractor, as there was no road. Today, decades later, much has changed, but one thing has remained: the closeness to nature and the heartfelt hospitality.
In 2008, Horst, the owner's son, took over the business and made nature a central to its identity. Three years later, it became South Tyrol's first climate hotel, and in 2013, it was awarded the seal of approval for sustainability. Today, the hotel presents itself as a modern, energy self-sufficient organic hotel surrounded by a unique landscape of forests and meadows, offering a front-row seat with panoramic views from early morning to late evening and air that simply does you good.

Together with his wife, Barbara, and a wonderful team, Horst brings the concepts of genuine hospitality, enjoyment and sustainability to life. The hotel's own cellar stores premium South Tyrolean wines, including organic, natural and Piwi varieties. In the "Wine.Atelier", Horst, also a sommelier, organises wine tastings in collaboration with local winegrowers. The kitchen relies on over 90 per cent organic ingredients, preferably from the region, for its cuisine. Horst and Barbara are certified organic, creative and passionate, and they bring their two great loves to the table: herbs and wine. A particular highlight is the weekly 'Forest, Wine and Meadow' menu, where local herbs and fine wines are perfectly paired.

The Fenilia spa offers individually tailored treatments inspired by traditional Alpine naturopathy, providing the perfect opportunity to relax.

The Wine King and The Herb Fairy

Horst and Barbara – two people who have known each other since school and have been walking through life together for over 27 years. Deeply rooted in nature and their homeland, they have embarked on a journey based on sustainability, mindfulness and joie de vivre. Affectionately known as the 'herb fairy', Barbara knows every corner of her garden and the surrounding area, and there she collects herbs. From nettle, dandelion and wild thyme up to the tops of spruce, juniper and mountain pine trees, she collects treasures that are transformed by the hotel's chef into fine delicacies such as a delicately fragrant spruce tips risotto. Oils, tinctures and essences also emerge from the medicinal herb garden – small natural wonders that nourish the body and soul.

Horst, on the other hand, is the “wine king.” His passion for fine wines has accompanied him since his youth. From sommelier courses to wine academia – he has devoted himself to learning about the world of wine. At Zöhlhof in Feldthurns, he puts his heart and soul into enjoying just under a hectare of Kerner grapes, which produce around 1,000 bottles a year – each one bearing the estate's label. And anyone who knows Horst can be sure that he already has his next project in mind: a Blauer Portugieser.

Together, Horst and Barbara form an unbeatable duo, combining herbs and wine, nature and culture, and passion and joie de vivre. Through their endeavours, they not only create moments of pleasure but also a vision of the future that will sustain generations to come.

Valle Isarco

The Eisacktal Valley, which was mainly planted with red varieties until 100 years ago, has long been one of Italy's most prestigious growing areas for white wine. Warm summer days and cool nights in early autumn lead to an exciting flavor concentration of dense grapes.
