Knottnkino on Rotsteinknott in Verano is one of the most beautiful vantage points in the Merano region. An open-air "cinema" where the only film playing is a constantly changing spectacular panoramic mountain view over Adige Valley, the Merano Basin, the Texel Group, Penegal, Gantkofel and Weisshorn. Impressions such as passing clouds, brilliant blue sky, the lush green valley floor and silhouettes of the 3000m tall peaks inspired Franz Messner to create this cinematic project 20 years ago.
In 2019, his children, Verena and David Messner, both architects, continued with the project. At Rotsteinknott, circular cuts were made in the terrain to create a level square carved out of the porphyry complete with a bench that opens up a view of Verano. On Beimsteinknott, the "Attimo" installation was constructed according to Franz Messner's sketches, consisting of an arrangement of 5 chairlift seats directly above a rocky outcrop. At Timpfler-knott, the lowest of the three rocks, circular incisions in the rock create a rest area. The sculpture of the wolf that appears to be casually roaming the rocky outcrop bears the signature of artist Michael Fliri.
