Ibex-hotspot on Piz Lad

From the initially sheltered forest path, you arrive at wide, open alpine pastures. To reach the cross on the summit, the route then ascends over scree and boulders to an altitude of over 2,800 metres. The summit panorama offers a fantastic 360-degree view of Lake Reschen, Lake Grün and Lake Schwarz in Nauders. Just below the summit is the border triangle. The common borders between Italy, Austria and Switzerland are visually represented here with the three-country border stone. With a little luck, hikers may encounter majestic ibexes, a particularly exhilarating sight. They have become less shy and almost trusting thanks to the many visitors. However, the resting places of these impressive animals should be respected and avoided at all costs. For a bite to eat and a drink after the descent, Rescher Alm is once again a lovely spot offering South Tyrolean fare.

the KNOWLEDGE: The border triangle is located 600 metres below the summit at an altitude of 2,181 metres, visible by means of a simple marble slab.

 

MARIENBERG MONASTERY - Pure and unadulterated wines

The Marienberg Monastery lies at an altitude of 1,350 metres. On the southern slopes, in the harsh Vinschgau climate, the two fungus-resistant grape varieties Solaris and Cabernet Cortis ripen cautiously but steadily to produce an honest and refined monastery wine. A detour to the monastery café invites you to enjoy a good glass of wine with a view of the west façade of the monastery and the marvellous landscape of Upper Vinschgau Valley.
