Spitzige Lun

Start in the village centre and from there walk along a gently inclined alpine path, initially on a tarmac road followed by a gravel road up into the forest to the open forest glades. There, a winding path leads you through flower-rich mountain meadows up to the tree line. From here, this panorama trail climbs gently up the broad ridge along the sun-exposed south-west-facing slope towards the summit. Arriving at an altitude of 2,324 metres, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding mountains massifs, Venosta Valley, Münster Valley to Lake Resia and Lake Muta. After taking a good long rest, we now head in the opposite direction for another 100 metres up to Croce Tartscher. It is also worth taking a break here to enjoy the panorama. Then it's back down along the original path in the direction of Mazia to the start.

 

THE WALK: From Mazia to Spitzige Lun to Croce Tartscher: > 2.5 hours, round trip another 2.5 hours

THE KNOWLEDGE: In 824, the place name Matsch (Mazia) was referred to as Amatia. One of the most influential noble families in the Venosta Valley, the bailiffs of Matsch, established their residence there in 1160. They relocated to the neighbouring Churburg castle in Schluderns in the fourteenth century.

 

WINEGROWING FARM CALVENSCHLÖSSL – wines very close to the sky

Calvenschlössl and its vineyards are located in Laatsch at an altitude of 1000 metres, just below Marienberg Monastery. A harsh climate, drastic temperature fluctuations and intense sunshine result in distinctive yet diverse flavours within the wine itself. Fungus-resistant varieties take priority at Calvenschlössl. Wine tasting with vintner Hilde Van den Dries is a delightful experience for every wine aficionado.
