Looking for originality, you‘ll find it here. A recently restored historic home with charming vintage features and great views.
Pension Leuchtenburg on Lake Kaltern has been run by the Sparer Family for 40 years and has outer walls that are more than 500 years old. This former supply house to the castle ruins overlooking it, has recently come into the hands of the younger generation of the family. The hosts, Kat and Jan, have completely renovated this heritage-protected building under the guidance of the Biquadra team of architects and lovingly transformed it into a very special holiday home.
Twelve individually designed rooms in vibrant colours, newly and stylishly furnished, accented with antique painted farm furniture, give the place a vintage character with an elegant touch. All the rooms have new bathrooms yet don’t need a TV as the rooms themselves are beautiful enough to be watched.
The wine living room is where life happens. An old vaulted cellar with exposed stone walls, a warm wooden floor and 140m2 of space. A meeting place with a sauna, yoga room, an honesty bar, record player, board games and lots of positive energy. This is the place to casually enjoy a glass of wine after a sauna with oil infusions, listen to music, read a good book or just laze around.
An open vista of the shoreline on the other side. The view, whether you're on the terrace or on the private lakefront grounds, will take your breath away. Enjoy this perpetual view - at breakfast, at dinner, from a lounger on the private lakeshore and even from the organic sauna. Or simply sit in a boat and row towards the panorama.

Pension Leuchtenburg adores authenticity
Hosts Kat and Jan call their guests by their first names making the whole stay more homely. Having a home away from home on holiday is a privilege beyond compare for Leuchtenburg guests and as everyone is friendly and relaxed, you immediately have a big new family at the lake. Only adults engage in recreational activities in the wine living room, sit on the terrace or lie on the private lakeshore,. The hosts' primary goal is to offer the best possible personalised service to each of their visitors.
For Chef Tanja, there’s no compromise when it comes to choosing produce. She only uses regional products, permaculture vegetables from the surrounding area and meat exclusively from South Tyrol - everything is either seasonal or can be found at the market. Every evening, Tanja conjures up the best dishes for your table. Freshly cooked food with exciting new taste sensations. Themed culinary evenings awaken memories or create new ones. Bella Italia with pasta from the pan or risotto, South Tyrolean originals with cold meats, cheeses and fresh cheese bread dumplings or tapas when the cook has the evening off. The family-style atmosphere of this little guesthouse is crowned by the "tavolata", a large and long table where the complete family of guests come together for dinner.
And all accompanied by a special sip from the depths of Kat's cellar, each carefully selected from the smaller South Tyrolean and Italian wineries. Here, too, Kat remains true to herself. This licensed sommelier knows her winegrowers and prefers natural wines, PIWI varieties or wines cultivated biodynamically. A new world of discovery is opened up for gourmets. In small groups, the hostess and her guests taste these excellent wines in her beautifully furnished old wine cellar.

Lake Kaltern favored the growth of sun-seeking varieties within its catchment area. White wines that are very fresh and racy, with strong fruit notes, grow at medium-high to high sites: Kalterer, Girlaner, St. Paulser and Eppan/Berg.
