The many joys of wine in South Tyrol

In the Vinalpinum Spa you’ll enjoy Alpine grape treatments and try out wine-related treatments for body and spirit alike. Guided tours through the Eisacktal vineyards and wineries bring you closer to South Tyrol’s richly diverse wine culture. Anyone who loves spending their holiday in the great outdoors, meanwhile, will love the countless hiking trails and guided walks.

Vineyard visit at Röck Winery in Villanders
Together with Matthias, the junior manager and a sommelier, guests walk from the hotel to Röck Winery (about 30 minutes), where local vintner Konrad Augschöll will lead a tour of his estate, old farm (where he produces his own Speck) and new cellar. Afterwards, participants can taste his wines. Offered weekly in the spring; no charge for guests.
Valle Isarco wine culture: the tradition of Törggelen
This guided hike, led by Matthias, first goes through the colorful fall foliage of the Valle Isarco and then to an original Törggele farm of Villanders, where in addition to a tour of the winery and tasting, guests will experience a tradition Törggelen meal, complete with wine and music; weekly in autumn; no fee for guests (drinks at the Törggelen are extra).

A wonderful wine holiday
The wine village of Villanders, known for its authentic rustic inns and wine taverns, is situated on one of the Eisacktal Valley's warmest sun terraces. The location of the StephansHof Vinum Hotels – high above the valley – offers a privileged view of the Eisacktal vineyards, the rugged peaks of the Dolomites and Kloster Säben Abbey, together with its vineyards. Excellent white wines thrive here, and wine is the heart and soul of the StephansHof. Every day, the StephansHof menu features many traditional South Tyrolean dishes; of course, dishes with Eisacktal white wines are an absolute must.
The hotel's extensive wine list, focusing mainly on the Eisacktal Valley, brings the most important wine-growing regions together. Junior chef and sommelier Matthias Egger leads guests through weekly tastings of Alto Adige wines, in combination with cheese specialties. Another highlight is to participate in a wonderful hike to the Villanderer Alm, ending with a wine tasting at an Alpine cheese dairy. Autumn brings out best of the Eisacktal Valley, the home of the Törggelentradition. This ancient custom is alive and well – and at its most authentic – at the Stephanshof: group hikes through colorful chestnut groves lead to old farms and wineries, where participants enjoy a classic Törggele meal in addition to a tour of the cellars and winery. The StephansHof also pampers its guests at its Vinalpinum Spa, with products from the Vinoble grape-seed line.

The Eisacktal Valley, which was mainly planted with red varieties until 100 years ago, has long been one of Italy's most prestigious growing areas for white wine. Warm summer days and cool nights in early autumn lead to an exciting flavor concentration of dense grapes.
