A knights’ castle in South Tyrol that keeps romantics on cloud nine! The fairytale castle dates back to the Middle Ages and is located high above Eppan – a gourmet paradise that feels like a stunning residential oasis. Nestled amidst vineyards, apple trees and Eppan Forest, even a short walk along the fortified walls affords total relaxation and expansive, panoramic views.
At the castle we serve superb Tyrolean-Mediterranean gourmet cuisine as well as fabulous wines, some of which are stored in a former bunker (old air-raid shelters). Our Vin pur line of cosmetics will help you leave the city, the job and any trace of stress behind.
Wine tasting and tour of the castle’s winery
Every Monday the castle owner, Fritz Dellago, leads guests on a tour of the Wine Bunker dating from World War II and the Barrique Tunnels, which were formerly air-raid shelters, also from World War II. The tasting of various wines is not to be missed. A real highlight is the special egg-shaped tanks, made of concrete, where the wine is stored.

Castle and wine-tasting hotel in Appiano
With patience and a deep sense of tradition, Fritz Dellago has transformed this admirably well-preserved castle into a well-maintained gourmet hotel. Here the guest will feel like the lord of the manor, from the tower room all the way down to the cellars.
The hotel's fine kitchen team offers typical dishes ranging from South Tyrolean cuisine to Italian delicacies, for which the modern South Tyrolean way of cooking is so popular. A passionate winemaker, Fritz Dellago has planted the cultivable land of his best vineyards with the ideal grape varieties.
The result is a remarkable diversity of species, with 14 varieties ranging from Pinot blanc to Gewürztraminer and Pinot gris to Pinot noir and Zweigelt. On several occasions the Dellago Pinot blanc cellared by Bolzano/Bozen Winery has received the Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso, the highest honor for a wine. The best Schloss Korb wines are stored in a former bunker and abandoned raid shelter – relics from World War II. And because Fritz Dellago links wine very much to culture, it is not only fine wine tastings that are held here, but also concerts, readings and literary evenings. Anyone who loves slightly more rustic fare can go about a half hour up the hill, where what are perhaps the best pork ribs around are served at Fritz Dellago’s second castle, Boymont.

Lake Kaltern favored the growth of sun-seeking varieties within its catchment area. White wines that are very fresh and racy, with strong fruit notes, grow at medium-high to high sites: Kalterer, Girlaner, St. Paulser and Eppan/Berg.
