Recharge at this family-run wine hotel in South Tyrol

San Genesio/Jenesien, situated atop a sunny plateau, is a beloved tourist destination. A veritable hiking paradise, it offers beautiful, constantly changing panoramic views and is easily accessible from Bolzano/Bozen by cable car. Tschögglbergerhof Vinum Hotel has earned an excellent reputation as a driving force in gourmet circles due to its Jenesien specialty week: Af the Sunnseitn.

The wine list at Tschögglbergerhof is extensive, too, in keeping with Goethe’s famous toast, “Life is too short to drink bad wine.” Hostess and sommelier Hedwig Gamper is always very generous when it comes to guest’s requests for wines by the glass as well. If a favorite wine is not completely finished at dinner, the opened wine bottle can be carried out in a wine bag. The BozenCard affords Tschögglbergerhof guests the opportunity to visit three prestigious wineries in South Tyrol: Cantina Bolzano, Arunda Sektkellerei in Mölten and the Loacker Winery at St. Justina.

Wine takes center stage in the Tschögglbergerhof kitchen – whether it’s South Tyrolean classics such as Terlaner white wine soup and Sankt Magdalener pot roast, or for use generally enhancing fine dishes. The hotelier Hedwig Gamper, an expert in wine, is always available for guests: she not only gives advice about pairing but also keeps everyone up to date about which wine events are taking place. Upon request, the Tschögglbergerhof team would also be happy to organize vineyard tours, winery visits or an excursion to the barrel-maker at Sigmundskron, South Tyrol’s only master cooper.
