Devoted to the grape cure

Vernatsch enjoyed a great deal of appreciation as the “grape cure” in Merano during the century before the First World War. Since time immemorial, Vernatsch has been known here as Meraner Hügel – a lighter and very spicy type of Vernatsch. In 1852 Archduke Johann introduced the first Pinot noir and Pinot blanc: a pioneering achievement with positive consequences.

Meraner Hügel: A spicy Vernatsch with power

Due to an intensified return to indigenous wines, Meraner Hügel from Tscherms, Marling and Meran, of course, have experienced a happy renaissance in recent years. In slightly cooler and exposed sites, the sensitive Pinot noir creates an interplay between red and black cherry fruit aromas reminiscent of the French models. Gewürztraminer and Pinot blanc – fine, very elegant niche products – are delightful, and also delicious as dessert wines.
