Naturns Riesling Days

Phenomenal white wines with fine alpine aromas

October 2019

The main regions of the Riesling grape are in Germany and Alsace.

But this grape variety is also cultivated in Austria, Switzerland, Russia and even overseas in California, New Zealand and Australia. This high-quality, late-maturing variety produces particularly fine wines especially in cooler wine-growing areas.

There is not much Riesling in South Tyrol (the entire quantity could be drunk at a medium-sized village festival) - but there is mostly only good or very good Riesling in South Tyrol - especially in Vinschgau. In recent years, Naturns has become an increasingly popular destination for wine connoisseurs and enthusiasts. For fifteen years now, this development has been reflected at the Naturns Riesling Days which has been very well-received by both guests and locals alike. One of the world's most fascinating white wine grape varieties will make the hearts of wine fans beat even faster this year - an international panel of experts will assess the best Italian Rieslings. Covering a remarkable 62 hectares, the Riesling variety, once a niche product, has clearly established itself in South Tyrol. The annual awards in the most important Italian wine guides, such as Gambero Rosso, Slow Wine and Guida Vini d'Italia delL'Espresso, bear witness to this. Repeated proof that Riesling when cultivated in certain areas promises a successful future for South Tyrolean winegrowers too.

Also, this year from mid-October to mid-November Naturns Riesling Days are offering an appealing agenda on the subject of wine. The itinerary leaves nothing to be desired. Taste buds can delight in award-winning cuisine in a 4-star ambience. Local Riesling vintners, the Unterortl/Juval Winery and the Falkenstein Winery will open up their cellars to the public. Guests of VINUM-Hotels South Tyrol can taste wines ripened on the sunny slopes above Naturns. If you want to treat yourself to something special, take part in a sophisticated "Riesling dinner" every Tuesday in the partner hotels participating in the Riesling Days event. On Wednesdays, guests and locals have the opportunity to visit some of these wineries and cellars on their "wine outings". Thursday is rounded off by the evening concert series "Wine & Music" in various bars and restaurants in Naturns.
Even if harvested late, like in Vinschgau, Riesling wines invariably impart a pronounced acidity. They are rich in extracts and extremely long lasting. That is why high-quality Rieslings are among the best and sometimes also most expensive white wines in the world.

Furthermore, he mountain farmers of the Naturns Sonnenberg are also inviting you to their farms: Patleid (Tel. 0473 667767), Pirch (0473 667812), Schnatz (0473 667744), Lint (0473 667884), Hochforch and Innerforch (0473 667748). "On your hike enjoy barley soup, herb dumplings, bacon dumplings, Speck platters with homemade bread, Schnals Nudl (local pasta dish), Schöpsernes (a delicious mutton dish), game specialities, roasted beef, roasted lamb, fresh sausages with cabbage and many other tasty dishes. Notably, also on offer within the scope of local farm cuisine: lamb specialities. Products of the highest quality have been produced on their farms with much joy and effort. Kaiserschmarrn, Krapfen and Kniakichl made according to old, well-kept recipes are an absolute must for dessert." Further information is available in all VINUM-Hotels South Tyrol and at the Naturns Tourism Information Office, tel. 0473 666077 info@naturns.com
