The Wine Hotel at Lake Caldaro
Parc Hotel am See
Nestled at the foot of the gently sloping Mitterberg Mountain and dominated by the ruins of Leuchtenburg Castle, the magnificent Parc Hotel am See extends across sprawling parkland situated right on the eastern shore of Lago di Caldaro/Kalterersee. This is the largest lake in South Tyrol and one of the warmest in the entire Alpine region, with the bathing season all the way from the middle of May until late September. Inside the sheltered reed belt along the south shore, rare species of birds such as kingfishers, snipes and red kites find a tranquil refuge.
The Parc Hotel am See, managed lovingly by the De Carli family and its team, is nestled into an idyllic oasis of nature; with a 100-meter-long beach, two jetties and pedal boats the hotel offers fabulous swimming and sunbathing. The De Carli family is equally quality-focused when it comes to the hotel spa: in addition to a unique sauna complex with Finnish sauna, Turkish bath and aroma grotto, the hotel offers therapeutic massages, other spa treatments and a romantic private spa for couples.
Promoting the local wine culture is a labor of love for the De Carli family. Founding members of the wein.kaltern initiative and supporters of the South Tyrol Wine Academy, the family organizes wine seminars and tastings given by preeminent figures in the wine world at the Parc Hotel am See. Even the service team receives ongoing wine education, including blind tastings. The detailed wine descriptions on the restaurant's wine list attest to a profound knowledge of wine and give guests in-depth information about South Tyrol's rich wine culture. The junior chef, Marcus De Carli, is always happy to exchange views and discuss philosophy in his architectural gem, the Bacchus Keller, where top labels from South Tyrol's winegrowing areas as well as the rest of Italy are stored.
